The President presides over all OHSLA meetings and serves as official spokesperson of the group. The President, with approval of the Executive Committee, appoints committee chairs and members, the editor of OHSLA Voice, and the webmaster.

Bette SydelkoBette is Coordinator of Assessment and Outreach Services and Clinical Medicine Librarian for the University Libraries at Wright State University. For the previous 16 years she held several positions at the Wright State University Fordham Health Sciences Library, including reference librarian, outreach librarian and head of the reference and instruction services department.  Bette began her career as a circuit librarian at the Guthrie Healthcare System in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

She earned her M.S.L.S. from the University of Illinois School of Library and Information Science and also has a Master's in Education from Wright State.  While in library school she worked as a graduate assistant, honing her reference skills at the health sciences library and the agricultural sciences library. 

In 1994 when O.H.I.O. (Ohio Health Information Organization) and the State Council of Ohio Health combined to form OHSLA, Bette was one of the Charter members along with a few other currently active members of OHSLA.  She has been an officer in OHSLA twice before, serving as both Secretary and Treasurer. Current professional responsibilities include: Co-Chair of the Midwest Chapter/MLA annual meeting in Ohio for 2009 and member of the MLA Credentialing Committee.  Bette is also active on the OhioLINK User Services Committee, where she is the health sciences representative to the committee and participates on the WebRef Subcommittee. In addition to these service positions, Bette has been a selector for Doody's Core Titles for Health Sciences since it started in 2004 and also has written numerous book reviews for ESTREAMS, an electronic book review publication from Yankee Book Peddlar. She is a Distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals.


Stacy Gall

Stacy has been the medical librarian at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio since 1995.  She is responsible for all aspects of the medical library from conducting literature searches to ILLs to collection development.  The Grant Medical Center Library supports all areas of the hospital, including numerous residency and fellowship programs and the Magnet nursing program.  She considers herself a "not-quite-a-solo librarian" with a support staff of one half-time assistant. 

 She earned her BA in History from The Ohio State University and her MLS from Kent State University.  She previously served terms as secretary and president of the Central Ohio Health Sciences Library Association (COHSLA).  She has been a member of OHSLA since 1995, recently serving two terms as treasurer.  She has also been a member of MLA and the Hospital Libraries Section since 1995, as well as the Midwest Chapter of MLA.  She was a member of the program and continuing education committees for the Midwest Chapter 1996 meeting, and a member of the facilities committee for the 2009 Midwest Chapter meeting.

Marlene Porter

Marlene is currently the Director of the Mulford Health Science Library on the Health Science Campus at the University of Toledo (formerly the Medical College/University of Ohio).   Upon receiving her professional degree in 1979 at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, she came to Ohio and has since worked in several types of libraries throughout the state.  She has been an active participant in OhioLINK (Chair of User Services Committee 1996-1998, as well as numerous other subcommittees and taskforces), OHSLA (Secretary, 2000-2004), Midwest Chapter/MLA (Treasurer, 2006-Present; Co-Chair 2009 Annual Meeting) and the Medical Library Association (Public Services Section Chair, 2004-2005; Continuing Education Committee, 2002-2005; Bylaws Committee, 2006-Present).  She is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Electronic Resources in Medical Libraries (2006-Present) and an associate editor of the Biomedical Digital Libraries (2004-Present). Though her husband has helped her become a Buckeye, her heart still remains with the Nittany Lions in Pennsylvania where she resided the first 25 years of her life.

Jodith JanesThe Treasurer is responsible for receipt and disbursement of all funds, and submits a written financial report at each meeting. The Treasurer also maintains the official membership list and serves as Chair of the Membership Committee.

Jodith is a Medical Librarian for the Alumni Library Cleveland Clinic Foundation a position she has held since 1989.   Current duties include providing reference services,  online searching assistance, both mediated and individual or group instruction.  She develops and presents education sessions to individuals and departments on library resources and database searching. 

She earned her MSLS from  Matthew A. Baxter School of Information and Library Science, CWRU in 1981.  While finishing her graduate work and then as a Librarian she worked on the "InfoHealth Project" where her responsibilities included development of criteria for selection of consumer health information books; and selection, purchase, and distribution of over $16,000 worth of books for ten public libraries.  She was co-author with Alan Rees of The Consumer Health Information Source Book.  2nd edition. New York: Bowker, 1984.  In 1983 she joined the library staff at Cleveland Health Sciences Library, CWRU as a Circuit Librarian providing library services to six area hospitals.  In 1985 she moved University Hospitals of Cleveland where she was Clinical Librarian to the Department of Internal Medicine and librarian to the Departments Dermatology, Pharmacy and Ophthalmology

She was a member of O.H.I.O, and served as Secretary for OHSLA 1998-1999.  She was Chair of MLA's Consumer and Patient Health Information Section in 1987-1988.  In 1987 she served on the planning committee for MidWest MLA Conference in Cleveland,  and has served in numerous positions in MLANO.  She is Distinguished Member of AHIP.  Since 1985 she has reviewed consumer health books for Library Journal.

Stephanie Schulte is the Education and Reference Services Coordinator and Assistant Professor at the Prior Health Sciences Library at The Ohio State University. Her responsibilities in this position include exploring innovative ways to provide reference service and developing and coordinating instructional efforts in the health sciences. She is also the liaison to the College of Nursing and staff nurses at OSU and serves on the OSU Medical Center's Evidence Based Practice Committee. Prior to this position, Stephanie spent three years as a reference librarian at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, serving nursing, biology, chemistry, dental education and consumer and family sciences, and also served as the 2007/2008 President of the Indiana Health Sciences Librarians Association.

Stephanie graduated magna cum laude from Morehead State University with a BS in biology/minor in chemistry in 1992 and completed her MLIS from Kent State University in 2005. Stephanie spent the first 10 years of her professional life in the laboratory working as a chemist for Procter & Gamble and in various parts of pre-clinical toxicology for Springborn Laboratories (now a division of Charles River). She is a member of MLA and the Midwest Chapter of MLA and active in the NAHRS section as editor of NAHRS Newsletter and member of the research committee.

Mike McGrawMike is an Ohio native.  He received his BA from Harvard University with a concentration in Government and including a junior year aboard at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Before earning his MLIS he served as a curator overseeing the digitization of a collection of orofacial radiographs and as an assistant librarian in a pediatric hospital library. He finished his MLIS at Kent State in 2003 and joined Cleveland Health Sciences Library in 2004 as Reference and User Services Librarian, where his focus is teaching online searching to the students, faculty and staff in CWRU's health science programs.

The Regional Advisory Council Representative serves as the communication link between OHSLA and the Regional Advisory Council (RAC) of the Greater Midwest Region of National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM). The RAC Representative is from a primary access library within the State of Ohio and serves a two-year term.
