Congratulations to newly elected OHSLA officers:

President Elect:  Jackie Harris

Jackie Harris, President Elect

Jackie Harris is the Medical Librarian at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio.  Formerly, she had worked as a reference librarian in public libraries:  the Medina County (OH) District Library, the Cobb County (GA) Library System, and the Atlanta-Fulton (GA) Library System.  She also interned at two special libraries: the American Bankers’ Association Library in Washington, D.C., and the research library at Advanced Elastomer Systems in Akron, Ohio.  Jackie obtained her undergraduate degree in marketing from the University of Florida, and her M.L.S. from the University of Maryland.  She is a member of MLA, OHSLA and the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine Council of Associated Hospitals.  Her interests include consumer health and hospital management.  Medical librarianship is a mid-life career change for her and she loves the challenge and diversity.  Jackie lives on a small farm with her retired librarian husband, four children, and a menagerie of critters. 

Secretary:  Fern Cheek

Fern has worked in Health Sciences Libraries for over 30 Fern Cheekyears. She was in hospital libraries for 27 years, first at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI and at all 3 of the Mount Carmel Health Libraries here in Columbus. Currently, she is assistant professor and research librarian at the Prior Health Sciences Library at The Ohio State University. As the research librarian, she works with researchers offering her expert searching skills and sits on one of the Institutional Review Boards. She also participates in teaching and research.  

Fern has been active in COHSLA, serving as President in 2000, OHSLA, as one of the charter members, Midwest Chapter of MLA, serving as the Exhibits chair when the conference was hosted in Columbus in 1996. Fern also served a term as secretary in the O.H.I.O, one of the two regional organizations that merged to form OHSLA. She has also been a member of MLA since 1975.
