HISTORICAL SKETCH
         On March 11, 1994 in Columbus, Ohio, members of the State Council for Ohio Health Sciences Libraries met with the Ohio Health Information Organization (O.H.I.O.) to merge and launch a new and broader-based organization, the Ohio Health Sciences Library Association (OHSLA).  It was believed that this merge would produce a stronger organization that could better represent the organization in the time of financial downsizing, political upheaval, and ever increasing technology.  This merge also provided a wide geographical base of members and offices.  Since 1994, OHSLA has bi-annual meetings in Spring and Fall.   View the history compiled for the 10th Anniversary of OHSLA.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
         The OHSLA records are generated by OHSLA.  The four series for OHSLA collection are: Activities, Administration, Associated Group, and Photographs.  The collection contains records, newsletters, photographs, overheads, and pamphlets accumulated by OHSLA members.
         The collection is particularly strong in the documentation of meeting reports and the newsletter, “OHSLA Voice.”  The collection contains several undated items.

SERIES DESCRIPTIONS
Series I, Activities, contains awards, exhibits, listserv, logo information, meetings, membership, the newsletter “OHSLA Voice”, programs and websites materials.  The series is arranged by type of record and then in chronological order.
 
Series II, Administration, contains bylaws, committee reports, correspondence, election information, executive committee, financial, policy, presidential papers, and vision statements.  The series is arranged by type of record and then in chronological order except correspondence and presidential papers.  Correspondence is arranged alphabetically by recipient’s last name and presidential papers are arranged alphabetically by the president’s last name.
 
Series III, Associated Group, contains GMR (Greater Midwest Region) information, history, and OCLIS (Ohio Council of Library and Information Services) information.  The series is arranged by type of record and then in chronological order.  Of particular interest in the series are the papers documenting the transition from O.H.I.O. (Ohio Health Information Organization) to OHSLA.
 
Series IV, Photographs, contains photographs of exhibits and meetings.  The photographs are arranged by the type of function depicted in the photograph.
